Mirror Lake

  the loons, they are, in fact, crazy

  for their lover to the return,

  who swam afar to collect fish

  and some sweetgrass, whose

  shadow left the ripples empty,

  so they send up their elongated

  vowels toward the clearing skies

  overhead, a siren call bent

  into a plea: lover, oh lover,

  come home to me
