All artwork for this issue are original photographs by Olivia Gates. Born and raised in Alabama, Olivia Gates is now a NYC transplant attending the Fashion Institute of Technology, acquiring a BFA in Photography and Related Media. For this project she remained close to her roots and photographed the South, the place she grew up in, rich in history and transcendent beauty. As a Southerner, Olivia’s viewpoint on the South is very subjective. It is so much a part of her, she can’t ever escape that, nor does she try. It’s a love-hate relationship. Olivia is continually coming to grips with it’s tumultuous past and ever-changing future, and aims to preserve it’s past through photographs.
