AFTER MISTAKING THE MOTEL 6 SIGN FOR THE MOON BEHIND THE MAPLE TREES

Standing in the copper night

after a rainstorm,

ashamed I couldn’t tell the difference

in how the florescence paints

the autumn leaves, the real moon

tucked somewhere behind a sign

that assures me there’s no vacancy

anywhere at this hour.
